Shoulder Pain

By Peter Rose FSI

Contents Include.

There are many causes of shoulder pain and this article touches on a few including some Injuries, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Frozen Shoulder.

INJURY

There are a lot of injury problems with shoulders, from dislocation to torn muscles.

SYMPTOMS INCLUDE

1) Pain in and around the back of the shoulder 2) Loss of movement 3) Pain when attempt to move 4) Inflammation and swelling

DESCRIPTION

The shoulder is a complex structure with several bones, joints and many muscles all making up the shoulder as a whole. There are the Clavicle (collar bone) and the Scapular- (Shoulder Blade) these are attached to the Humerus (upper arm bone) and are attached to the spine at the back.. This whole lot has to move in several different directions under load. There are muscles and a variety of attaching tendons etc as well as bursa (The bags of cushioning and lubricating gel). Damage to the bursa, damage to the tendons, damage to the various muscles will all result in pain and loss of mobility. There is also a possibility of “Calcific tendonitis” which is a condition of degeneration in tendons as part of the aging process and is caused by a build up of calcium in the tendons. This condition may possibly disappear spontaneously after two to three weeks but may require care and treatment

SOLUTIONS:
  • Rest and obtain scans to establish the extent of the damage
  • Short term use of pain killers.
  • Magnetic Shoulder Wrap BBP-31

Immobilize the shoulder joint for a short period –a sling to fix the shoulder joint in one position but this is extremely difficult to sleep in; so a shoulder wrap is a better idea

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS SYMPTOMS INCLUDE:

1) Pain especially when attempting to move after resting 2) Pain and restricted movement that never seems to go away 3) Restricted movement and often swelling in local areas.

DESCRIPTION

A form of arthritis that involves the joints arthritis being a generic name for any condition that has pain associated with inflammation and a joint.

SOLUTIONS

Warmth, as being cold often aggravates arthritic conditions. Medications to reduce inflammation and so reduce pain. Try the Magnetic Shoulder Wrap BBP-31. Use the Gold 9000 Spot Magnets to circle the centre of the pain can also be very effective. Although this may sound odd, the use of magnetic necklace can often help

FROZEN SHOULDER SYMPTOMS INCLUDE

1) severe loss of mobility 2) Pain radiating from back of shoulder 3) General stiffness in upper back combined with loss of movement in the shoulder

DESCRIPTION

The correct name for this condition is adhesive capsulitis and this is a version of tendonitis. The name is a good description of the condition, the shoulder will not move as it should

SOLUTIONS

The condition often settles down after a few months but can and usually does leave a residual restriction of movement. Manipulation under anaesthesia. Magnetic Shoulder Wrap BBP-31 Aromatherapy and gentle massage. As a preventative, ensure you have fish oil and or Glucasomine in your daily diet

CONCLUSIONS

Shoulder pain is very common and is usually due to problems with muscles or tendons, very often pain is referred to the shoulders from the neck particularly the condition known as cervical spondylosis, which is a small distortion of the vertebrae that puts pressure on nerves and refers pain to shoulders. You can also get referred pain from a heart attack so always treat pain in the shoulder with respect. Shoulders take a lot of wear and tear, being broad shouldered can be a problem in more ways than one.
