    For many reasons, there may become a time, in adult life when you may consider a return to studying. A vast number of people sometimes miss out on learning. This may be due to a disability, illness, family commitments, loss of job, or inadequate provisions.

    Whether you wish to learn a new skill, or refresh your knowledge in a core subject. With the age of internet technology, enrolling on a course of your choice has become much easier. If you do not wish to attend tutorials at a local college or university, open and distance learning courses are widely available. Learning from home has proved to be very popular, as it provides a means of scheduling studying around your daily routines. Especially useful if have school age children.

    Distance learning is a process of delivering education through printed material, electronic media, computer aided instruction and audio/video broadcasting.. Assignments are submitted, electronically or through the post for a tutor to mark and return with feedback on your progress. Course materials are delivered to your home, and it is your personal responsibility to discipline yourself into organising your own study time.

    The cost of student fees and studying a course can vary in price. People on low incomes may feel unable to ever consider enrolling on a course because of financial restraints. Some colleges and universities have a facility of providing a financial award to pay course fees. These awards are allocated following an assessment and outcome of an application. You can also apply for an Adult Learning Grant, which is a weekly amount 0f £30.

    Support while studying

    If your disability requires support during your course. Colleges and Universities, can help by providing, course materials in Braille and other accessible formats. Loan of equipment, such as computers, calculators etc. Plus allocate additional time to complete course, and extra time for exams.
